As we’re getting ready for our festival of plays on Saturday 21st September 2024 at Derby Theatre, here’s a little bit about the two plays you can see at 5.30pm:

THE REVOLT OF THE EARLS by John Hassall

“The Revolt Of The Earls” is set in Norman times and involves the plot to usurp King William and Queen Matilda from the throne of England. Bishop Odo, William’s half brother plots and schemes with a Northern Earl, Waltheof.

John has been writing short stories, sketches and short plays for about three years. Rapidly approaching his seventieth birthday he was pleasantly surprised when his play was selected to be part of the event. John would like to thank his fellow members of Derbyshire Scriptwriters Group from whom he has the most positive and instructive support since joining.

THE ASSESSMENT by Hugh Jones

Hugh started his playwriting journey just over three years ago. With The Assessment he explores the idea of a world where a maximum wealth limit of $10 million dollars is in place. Anyone over the maximum wealth limit is subject to an assessment to see how they would cope on “limited” means. Hugh is looking forward to developing The Assessment from its original one act format into a full length play.
