July Meeting: Tuesday 3rd, 7.30, Flowerpot Pub

Hello, it\’s our last meeting before the summer holidays – we\’ll catch up again in September, but before we even start to think about sandcastles and suncream, we\’ll be thinking about another one of our members scripts!  As well as being really useful feedback for our members, it\’s a great way to keep your critical cells working on your own projects before you present them for critique…

If you want to see and hear what we think, agree on and disagree on, come along and say hello at the Flowerpot Pub, Derby, or email us if you\’d like to come to our next meeting: joinus@derbyshirescriptwriters.co.uk

Neil McKay report and June Meeting: 7.30- 9.30, 5th June, Flowerpot Pub, Derby

Neil McKay – pic: University
of Derby

Last Saturday Derbyshire Scriptwriters held a fantastic session with Neil McKay, one of Britain\’s most respected and successful scriptwriters at the University of Derby.

Neil\’s insights into his experience of writing for television and radio were well received by an audience of writers from inside and outside of the county, and the whole day was a terrific opportunity for DSW members and non-memberss to get together and discuss the craft of bringing a story to life through drama.

Just a day later, and our guest speaker was in the audience of the Bafta Television Awards, watching his most recent drama, \’Appropriate Adult\’ collect three major awards.  DSW would like to thank Neil for his time, the University of Derby for their great facilities, and everyone else who made it a brilliant, inspirational day – here\’s to the next one!

If you want to hear more about it, join us for June\’s meeting; we\’ll be at the Flowerpot Pub again next Tuesday to talk films, plays, scripts, and critique one of our member\’s works in progress – see you there!

March Meeting, New Venue – Tues 6th March at The Flowerpot

Hello, Derbyshire Scriptwriters are back this Tuesday at a brand new venue – we\’ll be meeting in the cellar bar of the Flower Pot Pub, King Street, Derby from 7.30pm on Tuesday the 6th of March.

We\’ll be discussing one of our member\’s scripts (a historical biopic), and other things script related.  If you\’d like to come along, drop us a mail: joinus@derbyshirescriptwriters.com, or just drop in and say hello!

Happy New Year! Next Meeting: Tues 3rd Jan

If today\’s been the day you\’ve started the computer, opened up a new file and typed

ACT ONE
SCENE ONE,

as someone sort of said; well done, you\’ve just taken your first step into a bigger world…

If 2012 is the year you finally write down that great idea for a script, you might be interested in knowing there\’s a few of us about doing the same thing…

The next meeting of Derbyshire Scriptwriters is this Tuesday – 3rd January from 7.30 to 9.30 in the Standing Order pub in Derby City Centre.  As usual, we\’ll be critting one of our member\’s scripts, and finding out how our members are getting on with past projects.

If you\’re just starting out, or stuck halfway through your umpteenth draft, you\’re more than welcome to join us!

Next Meeting 7.30 – 9.30, Tues 6 Dec

Tis the season to be critting- to be honest, it\’s always a good time to be critting work…
We\’ll be at the Standing Order Pub in Derby city centre from 7.30 on Tuesday the 6th to discuss one of our member\’s script outlines, as well as other things script-related – see you there!

Next Meeting; Tuesday 1st November, 7.30 – Standing Order

Hello there, this month\’s meeting crit is for a new draft of DSW member Emma\’s thriller screenplay. After just reading the opening lines on screen, I can already see a positive difference in what\’s on the page.

This is what writing and DSW is about – our first draft, even if it\’s a great draft, will not be the final draft of the story. Even after a script is taken for production, changes can take place for all manner of reasons in the process of bringing it to it\’s audience.  But ultimately, it\’s in the control of the writer to make those changes work for their story; which is what Emma has done after her previous crit session.

Being ready to address those changes that need to be made is part of making a story work, especially in a collaborative medium like film. I\’m looking forward to reading the rest of Emma\’s the screenplay – as soon as I can get to a printer…

If you\’d like to join us, we\’ll be at the Standing Order pub in Derby from 7.30 – drop us an email to let us know you\’re coming along, and we\’ll save you a seat.

October Meeting – bit of a change.

Hello, just to let you know October\’s Derbyshire Scriptwriters meeting has been replaced by a group outing to the Neil McKay event at the University of Derby this evening. We\’ll all be having a natter after the event; so if you\’re going too, stop behind and say hello – we\’ll be meeting up again properly on November 1st.

If you\’re not going to the event, but would like to catch up with us in November, send us an email to joinus@derbyshirescriptwriters.com and we\’ll let you know where we\’ll be discussing scripts and our own forthcoming workshop with Neil.
