Great to see an update from DSW member Jonny on his upcoming play showcase of some of our members scripts at the Duchess Theatre, Long Eaton on the 13th and 14th May 2024:

We’re taking a break from critiquing scripts in progress this month- May is our Annual General Meeting. We’ll look over our progress over the past year and look forward to the next- you’re welcome to join us and say hello, just click on the ‘Join Us’ link here.

DSW member Jeff’s script ‘First to Find’ will be heading to Ireland in May to be performed at Cork Arts Theatre as part of their ‘View from a Lampost’ writing contest- congratulations Jeff!

Happy Easter! We’re reaching the submission deadline for our One Act Play event in September at Derby Theatre, so we’re cracking on and working with scripts from DSW members Hugh and Jeff to help them unscramble any issues with their scripts and make them egg-celent! If you’d like to say hello and see what we’re up to, you’re more than welcome to come and say hello at our next meeting- just click here to join us– we’re not yolking! (That’s enough egg puns now)

Congratulations to DSW member Jeff on his winning submission ‘You are My Sunshine’ to Wireless Theatre’s ‘Mummylogue’ writing competition- just in time to celebrate Mother’s Day- well done Jeff!
This month’s meeting continues our work critiquing one of our member’s scripts in progress before it’s submitted for our festival of one act plays at Derby Theatre in September- and it’s been really interesting to see the different approaches our members have made to make stories that come to life. If you’d like to join us and say hello, get in touch.

We’re building up to having our scripts completed for our festival of one act plays at Derby Theatre this September, so we’ll be critiquing another DSW member’s script this Sunday to get our work fighting fit and ready to wow our audience- if you’d like to join us, get in touch.

It was great to catch up with members this weekend after bad weather forced us to cancel our December meeting- special congratulations to DSW Member Jeff who featured in ‘Best’ magazine with a prizewinning ‘Story for Christmas’- great news to start 2024!

Happy New Year! 2024 is here, and we’re looking forward to presenting our one act plays at Derby Theatre this September. We’ll be critiquing another DSW member’s script this Sunday to get our work ready for performance- if you’d like to join us, get in touch.

Congratulations to DSW member Lynda- her novel ‘Voltaire’s Garden’ featured as part of the National Association of Writers Groups recent roundup- Lynda talks about the inspiration and creation of her novel here:
“Voltaire – philosopher, human rights campaigner, satirist, playwright and atheist. 300 years ago he was urging tolerance – and saying the world would be a better place if world leaders got out into their gardens!
I enjoyed researching for this novel and visiting his mansion in Ferney-Voltaire on the Franco-Swiss border.
My less-than-serious novel, Voltaire’s Garden, is in paperback and Kindle from Amazon.”
